Registered Nursing (LPN to RN), AAS Degree

For the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) looking to advance your career path, the LPN to RN (Registered Nursing) program at Mitchell Tech is designed to build upon your previously learned and practiced foundational nursing knowledge as an LPN. Our curriculum will allow you to grow into your new RN role in just one year.

As a RN student at Mitchell Tech, you will master scientific, physiologic, psychosocial, and fundamental nursing knowledge which will expand and develop your critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills. You will attend clinicals within the community to expand your nursing knowledge and skills, with nursing theory and general education classes delivered as hybrid courses, resulting in minimal trips to campus. The RN program will also incorporate clinical simulation experiences using Mitchell Tech's sim labs and virtual technology.

Upon completion of the LPN to RN program, you will graduate with an Associate of Applied Science degree and be eligible to take the NCELX-RN.

Admission Requirements:  All RN applicants must hold a current and unencumbered LPN/LVN/PN license, a 2.5 or above GPA from graduating LPN program, completed 750 hours of paid work experiences as an LPN within the past 12 months, and one work reference from current supervisor.  Additionally, RN applicants must have completed the following pre-requisite courses with a C or above:  chemistry survey with lab, basic/general microbiology with lab, mathematical reasoning or equivalent, general psychology, and English composition.

All students accepted to the program must submit to a criminal background check at the student's expense.  Details are available from the Nursing Program Director.

Other requirements include immunizations; a physical exam; health insurance; current BLS certification; and more.  See the Nursing Program Director for details.

Progression in the nursing program is dependent upon satisfactory completion of the prescribed sequence of courses.  Students are required to complete all course work with a grade of "C" or higher before progression to the next semester is allowed and to qualify for graduation.

NOTE:  Students are required to use a laptop or notebook computer for this program.  Students may purchase a laptop from Mitchell Tech or bring their own device that meets Mitchell Tech specifications.
