Radiation Therapy, AAS Degree
The Radiation Therapy program utilizes didactic, laboratory, and clinical education to prepare students to work as Radiation Therapists in cancer treatment centers and hospitals. Radiation Therapists work under the direction of a radiation oncologist to treat patients with malignant diseases using ionizing radiation. The program uses a combination of technical and general education courses to emphasize decision-making and critical thinking skills based upon a solid clinical foundation.
The program consists of three consecutive semesters. Students will spend the last two semesters in a radiation therapy facility completing their clinical experience. This requires students to relocate, at their own expense, to the community where the assigned facility is located.
Admission Requirements:
- Contact the Mitchell Tech Admissions office for an application packet.
- Students accepted into the program must be ARRT registered or registry-eligible radiographers.
- Students must also have completed the following college courses: anatomy and physiology, college algebra, and physics for radiographers. Mitchell Tech’s registrar works with the admissions counselor and the program director to evaluate transcripts to assure that enrolling students meet the prerequisite requirements.
- Once accepted into the program, students must submit to a criminal background check at the student’s expense. Details are available from the Admissions Office.
Some additional requirements, including drug screening and immunizations, may have to be met before entering certain clinical sites. These costs are at the student's expense. Contact the Program Director for more information.
Students must complete all technical courses with a minimum grade of C (2.0) in order to progress to subsequent semesters and graduate.
Note: Students are required to use a laptop or notebook computer for this program. Students may purchase a laptop from Mitchell Tech or bring their own device that meets Mitchell Tech specifications.
