SOC 100 Introduction to Sociology

This comprehensive course provides an up­-to-­date presentation of the essentials of sociological study. Students will learn a wide range of classical and contemporary perspectives of diverse roles, interests, opportunities, contributions, and experiences in social life. The socialization process, including social structure, social interaction, and social groups is examined in the context of how human society developed. Topics include race, ethnicity, deviance, gender, class, age, marriage and family, politics, education, religion, population, and social change. Upon completion, students should be able to analyze how cultural differences evolve and objectively evaluate those differences, thus enabling them to appreciate diversity in their workplaces and communities.
